Iran’s supreme leader killed in major attack by US and Israel

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a major attack on Iran launched by Israel and the United States, Israeli officials told The Associated Press on Saturday. There was no immediate comment from the U.S. or Iran on his status.
World leaders are responding cautiously after U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran raised fears of a wider war.
The U.S. Central Command has released videos showing missiles being fired and jets taking off in what it said was strikes “to dismantle the Iranian regime’s security apparatus”. Other footage released by the military showed U.S. munitions striking what appeared to be a variety of targets from drones to buildings.
Israel’s rescue services said Saturday night a woman in the Tel Aviv area had died after being injured amid a heavy barrage of Iranian missiles.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said “there are many signs” that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed Saturday morning, as part of a major U.S.-Israeli attack on the country.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a major attack by Israel and the United States, Iranian state media confirmed early Sunday, throwing the future of the Islamic Republic into doubt and raising the risk of regional instability.
President Donald Trump announced the death hours earlier, saying it gave Iranians their “greatest chance” to “take back” their country.
State media reported that the 86-year-old was killed in an airstrike targeting his compound in downtown Tehran. Satellite photos from Airbus showed that the site was heavily bombed.
His death at his office “showed that he consistently stood among the people and at the forefront of his responsibilities, confronting what officials call global arrogance,” state TV said.
“Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead,” Trump wrote in a social media post. He warned of “heavy and pinpoint bombing” that he said would continue throughout the week and even beyond, part of a lethal assault the U.S. has justified as necessary to disable the country’s nuclear capabilities.
Iran, which responded to the strikes with its own counterassault, warned of retribution, with the Cabinet saying that this “great crime will never go unanswered.” The paramilitary Revolutionary Guard threatened to launch its “most intense offensive operation” ever targeting Israeli and American bases.

What to know about the new US-Israeli attacks on Iran
The attack opened a stunning new chapter in U.S. intervention in Iran, carried the potential for retaliatory violence and a wider war, and represented a startling flex of military might for an American president who swept into office on an “America First” platform and vowed to keep out of “forever wars.”
The killing of Khamenei in the second Trump administration assault on Iran in eight months appeared certain to create a leadership vacuum given the absence of a known successor and because the 86-year-old supreme leader had final say on all major policies during his decades in power. He led Iran’s clerical establishment and the Revolutionary Guard, the two main centers of power in the governing theocracy.
Iran quickly formed a council to govern the country until a new supreme leader is chosen.
State media also reported the deaths of the head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and a top security adviser to Khamenei in airstrikes. Maj. Gen. Mohammad Pakpour took over as the Guard’s top commander after Israel killed its past commander in the 12-day war last June. The adviser, Ali Shamkhani, had long been a figurehead within Iran’s security establishment, IRNA said.
As reports trickled out about Khamenei’s death, eyewitnesses in Tehran told The Associated Press that some residents were rejoicing, cheering from rooftops, blowing whistles and letting out ululations.

Mourners raised a black mourning flag over the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city and a major pilgrimage site for Shiite Muslims. The Iranian government declared 40 days of public mourning and a seven-day nationwide public holiday to commemorate Khamenei’s death.
Citing unidentified sources, the semiofficial Fars news agency, believed to be close to the Revolutionary Guard, reported that several relatives of Khamenei were also killed, including a daughter, son-in-law, daughter-in-law and grandchild.
Strikes were planned for months
The joint U.S.-Israel operation, which officials say was planned for months, took place Saturday during the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan and at the start of the Iranian workweek. It followed stilted negotiations and warnings from Trump, who last year trumpeted his administration’s success in incapacitating the country’s nuclear program but nonetheless cast the latest round as necessary to head off its potential resurgence.
About 12 hours after the attacks began, the U.S. military reported no U.S. casualties and minimal damage at U.S. bases despite “hundreds of Iranian missile and drone attacks.” It said targets in Iran included Revolutionary Guard command facilities, air defense systems, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.
Israel, for its part, said it had killed the commander of the Revolutionary Guard Corps and the country’s defense minister, as well as the secretary of the Iranian Security Council, a close adviser to Khamenei.
Khamenei “was unable to avoid our Intelligence and Highly Sophisticated Tracking Systems and, working closely with Israel, there was not a thing he, or the other leaders that have been killed along with him, could do,” Trump said. “This is the single greatest chance for the Iranian people to take back their Country.”
An Iranian diplomat told the United Nations Security Council that hundreds of civilians were killed and wounded in the strikes. Iran retaliated by firing missiles and drones toward Israel and at U.S. military bases in the region, and exchanges of fire continued into the night.
Some of the first strikes on Iran appeared to hit near the offices of Khamenei, the second leader of the Islamic Republic who succeeded Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Israeli officials confirmed the death, followed by Trump.
Democrats decried that Trump had taken action without congressional authorization. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the administration had briefed several Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress in advance.
U.S. President Donald Trump urged the Iranian people to “take over your government” in a video address posted Saturday. His comments came after the U.S. and Israel launched an attack on Iran.
Tensions soared as US built up military forces
Tensions have soared in recent weeks as the Trump administration built up the largest force of American warships and aircraft in the Middle East in decades. The president insisted he wanted a deal to constrain Iran’s nuclear program while the country struggled with growing dissent following nationwide protests.
Though Trump had pronounced the Iranian nuclear program obliterated in strikes last year, the country was rebuilding infrastructure that it had lost, according to a senior U.S. official who spoke to reporters on condition of anonymity to discuss Trump’s decision-making process. The official said intelligence showed that Iran had developed the capability to produce its own high-quality centrifuges, an important step in developing the highly enriched uranium needed for weapons.
Iran responded to the latest strikes by launching missiles and drones toward Israel and targeting U.S. military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar. The Israeli military said Iran fired dozens of missiles at Israel, with many intercepted. The Magen David Adom rescue service said Saturday night that a woman in the Tel Aviv area died after being wounded in an Iranian missile attack.

At least three explosions were heard Saturday evening near the Intelligence Ministry building in northern Tehran, witnesses said, adding that air defense systems had begun operating there. Israel’s military said it had begun new strikes against missile launchers and aerial defense systems in central Iran.
In southern Iran, at least 115 people were reported killed when a girls’ school was struck, and dozens more were wounded, the local governor told Iranian state TV. U.S. Central Command spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins said he was “aware of reports” that a girls’ school was struck and that officials were looking into them.
Iran’s state news agency IRNA said at least 15 people were killed in the southwest, quoting the governor of the Lamerd region, Ali Alizadeh, as saying a sports hall, two residential areas and a hall near a school were hit.
Flights across the Middle East were disrupted, and air defense fire thudded over Dubai, the United Arab Emirates’ commercial capital. Shrapnel from an Iranian missile attack on the UAE capital killed one person, state media said.
Attack was coordinated between Israel and US
Israel said the operation had been planned for months with the United States. Air Force pilots struck “hundreds of targets across Iran,” Israeli military chief of staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said in a statement.
Targets in the Israeli campaign included Iran’s military, symbols of government and intelligence targets, according to an official briefed on the operation, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss nonpublic information on the attack.
Trump acknowledged Saturday that there could be American casualties, saying “that often happens in war.” He said he was aiming to “annihilate” the Iranian navy and destroy regional proxies supported by Tehran. He called on the paramilitary Iranian Revolutionary Guard to lay down arms, saying members would be given immunity or face “certain death” if they did not.
Iran had said it hoped to avert a war, but it maintained its right to enrich uranium.
Iran has said it has not enriched since June, but it has blocked international inspectors from visiting the sites the U.S. bombed. Satellite photos analyzed by AP have shown new activity at two of those sites, suggesting Iran is trying to assess and potentially recover material.
Trump had threatened military action but held off following Iran’s recent crackdown on protests spurred by economic grievances that evolved into a nationwide push against the ruling clerics.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency says it confirmed more than 7,000 deaths in the crackdown and is investigating thousands more. The government has acknowledged more than 3,000 killed.
Effects could extend to markets and other countries
The strikes could rattle global markets, particularly if Iran makes the Strait of Hormuz unsafe for commercial traffic. A third of worldwide oil exports transported by sea passed through the strait in 2025.
Saudi Arabia said Iran targeted its capital and eastern region in an attack that was repelled. Bahrain said a missile attack targeted the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet headquarters in the island kingdom, and three buildings were damaged in the capital, Manama, and Muharraq city by drone strikes and debris from an intercepted missile.
Kuwait’s civil aviation authority said a drone targeted the main international airport, injuring several employees. Kuwait’s state-run news agency said three troops were injured by shrapnel from strikes that hit Ali Al-Salem air base. Explosions could also be heard in Qatar. Jordan said it “dealt with” 49 drones and ballistic missiles.

If you want to understand international politics today, it's important to analyze how warfare has changed in recent history. There are some people who claim that in the 21st century there have been fewer wars than in the 20th century and previous centuries. However, that misunderstands how war has evolved.
00:00:22
With the creation of nuclear weapons and other technologies, it is now more dangerous to wage conventional war with militaries of different states fighting each other. So instead, in the past several decades, war has become more and more unconventional. Governments and non-state actors use other forms of war, including psychological war, information war, technological war,
00:00:52
and cyber war, and of course, economic war. And the United States in particular has become the master of economic war. The Washington Post calculated that the US government has imposed sanctions on one third of all of the countries on Earth, including 60% of low-income nations, especially in Eurasia and Africa.
00:01:19
By the way, pretty much all of those sanctions are illegal under international law. They are considered unilateral coercive measures. But because the US is an empire, a global hegemon, there are no consequences when it constantly violates international law and wages economic war against countries all around the world. And sometimes Western defenders of sanctions claim that supposedly sanctions are non-violent.
00:01:46
They're a peaceful form of pressure that Western governments can take. That is absolutely not true. This is war by other means. In fact, sanctions often lead to even more deaths than conventional military war. A peer-reviewed study published in the leading medical journal The Lancet in 2025 by leading scholars
00:02:08
found that economic sanctions imposed by the USA or the European Union were associated with more than 560,000 deaths per year on average from 1971 until 2021. That is half a million deaths on average per year over 50 years. We're talking about tens of millions of deaths caused by these illegal Western sanctions. Sanctions are not peaceful.
00:02:38
They're not an alternative to war. I repeat, they are another form of war that can be just as deadly, if not more so. And of course, one of the main targets of this aggressive US economic warfare is Iran. The US government, for years, not just under Trump, has tried to crush the Iranian economy in order to destabilize and overthrow the Iranian government.
00:03:04
However, although this US economic war against Iran is bipartisan, that is true. We saw that the George W. Bush administration and the Obama administration imposed very aggressive sanctions against Iran. With all of that said, the Trump administration, both in its first term and now in its second term, has taken this economic war against Iran to a whole new level.
00:03:29
Trump declared what he called a maximum pressure campaign to try to destroy the Iranian economy. And Trump's undersecretary of state, Jacob Helberg, who is a neoconservative warmonger, boasted on Twitter that, quote, President Trump's strategy of maximum pressure has brought the regime to its knees, end quote. And as the US is dropping economic bombs on Iran's economy,
00:03:59
Trump is threatening to drop physical bombs to bomb Iran again, just as he attacked Iran in June 2025. And Trump claims that these new bombings, these new airstrikes will be, quote, far worse, end quote. Back in June 2025, when Trump bombed Iran, he openly called for regime change. And he's been promoting this slogan, Make Iran Great Again, MIGA.
00:04:28
And then more recently, in January 2026, as Iranians were protesting in the streets, Trump openly supported them as they were burning down government buildings. And he wrote on his social media website, Truth Social, quote, Iranian patriots keep protesting. Take over your institutions. Help is on its way. MIGA, end quote. In January, Trump also boasted that he sent a, quote,
00:04:58
massive armada, end quote, of US military forces to the Middle East, to West Asia, to surround Iran to prepare for a conventional war. And let's not forget that these threats came just a few weeks after Trump bombed Venezuela and kidnapped Venezuela's internationally recognized president, Nicolás Maduro. The New York Times created a map showing where some of the US military forces in the region are,
00:05:25
including two US destroyers, which are next to the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important geostrategic chokepoints on Earth. Millions of barrels of oil travel through that very small chokepoint every day. There are also three combat ships off the coast of Iran, as well as in the Arabian Sea, the USS Lincoln, an aircraft carrier, has been deployed along with three more destroyers.
00:05:54
In addition to a US guided missile destroyer near the Suez Canal, another very important geostrategic chokepoint off the coast of Egypt, and then two more US destroyers in the Mediterranean off the coast of Lebanon. The US empire has also surrounded Iran with dozens of military bases in the region, and at least 40,000 US troops,
00:06:21
especially in some of the Gulf monarchies like Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, and Oman. So if Trump bombs Iran again, it's very possible this could spread into a regional war, given that Iran has made it clear that it will retaliate in self-defense against this US war of aggression, and could potentially hit US military bases and troops stationed in the dozens of bases surrounding it in the region.
00:06:51
So this is a very dangerous moment that could grow into a large conventional military war. But today I'm going to be focusing on something related, but slightly different, which is the economic war that the US has been waging against Iran. Because top Trump administration officials have been boasting that they are trying to collapse Iran's economy. That was the language used by Trump's Treasury Secretary, Scott Besant,
00:07:21
who is a billionaire hedge fund manager from Wall Street. In an interview on Fox News, Scott Besant boasted that the so-called maximum pressure campaign of brutal US sanctions on Iran collapsed Iran's economy. By the way, these US sanctions are completely illegal, according to international law. Besant also sadistically gloated about the fact that Iran is running out of dollars, which has led to significant inflation,
00:07:51
and Iran cannot pay for imports, which has caused an economic crisis, which is why people are protesting. So when you listen to this clip here, keep in mind, this is a top US government official boasting of collapsing Iran's economy and taking credit for the protests. So this is clearly the intention. The US wants to destabilize the government, and the US is supporting these protests that it started in the first place. Listen here.
00:08:21
What do you want to say about sanctions? Something else you've been working on, of course. What are you planning there in terms of Iran and the impact there? Do sanctions actually work? And the same question with regard to 500% secondary sanctions or tariffs on countries who purchase energy products from Russia. Okay, so two things here. There are treasury sanctions. And if you look at a speech that I gave at the Economic Club of New York last March,
00:08:48
I said that I believe the Iranian currency was on the verge of collapse, that if I were an Iranian citizen, I would take my money out. President Trump ordered treasury and our OFAC division, Office of Foreign Asset Control, to put maximum pressure on Iran. And it's worked. Because in December, their economy collapsed. We saw a major bank go under. The central bank has started to print money. There is a dollar shortage.

Re: Trump starts WWIII by killing Iran supreme leader who was tortured by the Shah
Nobody is telling you how messed up the entire supply chain of modern civilization actually is right now.
Everyone is watching oil prices. $120 a barrel. Headlines everywhere.
Nobody is talking about what oil BECOMES after it's refined.
Here's what happens when 20 million barrels per day disappear:
92% of the world's SULFUR comes from oil and gas refining.
Sulfur → sulfuric acid. The single most produced chemical on Earth.
Without sulfuric acid, you can't extract:
→ Copper
→ Cobalt
→ Nickel
Without those metals:
→ No transformers
→ No EV batteries
→ No data center substrates
→ No electronics. Period.
One chemical. One feedstock. One chokepoint. ALL shut down.
But it gets worse.
Qatar ships a massive share of the world's LNG through Hormuz. That gas powers TAIWAN.
→ Taiwan has days of LNG reserves left
→ TSMC uses 9% of Taiwan's TOTAL electricity
→ TSMC makes 90% of the world's advanced chips
→ No gas → no power → no chips → no AI, no phones, no military hardware
Still think this is about gas prices?
One-third of the world's nitrogen fertilizer feedstock moves through the Strait.
→ Synthetic nitrogen is the reason 4 BILLION people are alive
→ Without it, global agricultural output doesn't decline — it COLLAPSES
→ You can't eat semiconductors
Three supply chains. One 21-nautical-mile chokepoint. ALL exposed:
Energy → Sulfur → Acid → Metals → Every battery and chip on Earth
Gas → Power → Taiwan → 90% of advanced semiconductors
Feedstock → Nitrogen → FOOD for half of humanity
"Black rain" is falling on Tehran right now. Sulfur dioxide and toxic hydrocarbons pouring into the atmosphere from bombed oil refineries. The same sulfur that was supposed to become sulfuric acid. That was supposed to extract the copper. That was supposed to build the transformers. That was supposed to power the grid.
Instead it's burning. Falling as acid rain on 15 million people. And every drop that falls is one less unit of industrial capacity the world will have for MONTHS.
This isn't an oil crisis.
This isn't even an energy crisis.
This is a CIVILIZATION crisis hiding behind an oil price.
And nobody is talking about it.
Prepare accordingly.

Kremlin issues chilling 'nuclear war' warning and blames Trump's 'gross' error
Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has issued a chilling warning over the 'likelihood of a nuclear conflict' in the Middle East, claiming Donald Trump has made a 'gross' strategic error
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-new ... r-36934522
Donald Trump could spark a "nuclear conflict" in the Middle East with the "biggest war" yet to come, warned the Kremlin.
The former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev — now a senior security official — claimed Trump had made a “gross” strategic error in taking on Iran.
Gulf states could respond to the crisis by seeking their own “nuclear shield”, dramatically increasing the risk of a wider conflict, he predicted.
Medvedev warned: “The likelihood of a nuclear conflict there, unfortunately, has increased as a result of this unprovoked, extremely dangerous war that the United States has started.”
For four years to 2012, Medvedev’s finger was on the Russian nuclear trigger as the country’s president. He blamed the United States for what he called an “unprovoked, extremely dangerous war”, accusing Washington and Israel of behaving like a “bull in a china shop” and pushing the region towards catastrophe.
“From a prosperous region, as a result of this behaviour of the United States together with Israel, which behaved like a bull in a china shop, something irreparable could happen,” he claimed. “I think this is the price of a gross mistake, a strategic mistake of the White House.”
