Unscheduled UK 911 forum outage - 911forum.org.uk

Post by TonyGosling »

Apologies for the outage last night from about 2am until 10.30 this morning.

One of the United Hosting support staff apparently put the site out by mistake.

Hi everyone
Down at 10:15am Thursday 1st August
Back again at 9:15am on Tuesday 6th August

Good to be back
- but any theories why the DDoS attack would hit at that specific time??

Mine
1. - https://www.greengathering.org.uk/ opened at 10am on Thursday 1st. ISP is Greennet - I was giving a talk there.
2. - Ergenekon, Turkish Gladio trial verdict Monday 5th August
3. - Takedown of PressTV YouTube account - general cyberwar precursor to false flag?
4. - supposed terror attacks in Yemen because of prison breakouts and evacuation of embassies

Sorry The website you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable

Sunday 4 August, 2200 BST. Since 10.15 BST on
Thursday 1 August 2013, we have been experiencing
connectivity problems at our data centre, which
will be affecting email and websites hosted with
GreenNet. This appears to be caused by a massive
distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, and
a subsequent block by our upstream providers.

Our plan includes restoring websites and client
servers to normal during Monday afternoon. We
have an interim service allowing access to
mailboxes and outgoing mail and to email lists
(note some users may find IMAP folders are
unavailable). Broadband service is back to
normal. We are continuing to investigate the cause pf the UDP DDoS attack.

For more updates, please see our Twitter feed @GreenNetISP.

The site you want may be currently unavailable.
To contact the site owner urgently, you may be
able to email info@domain where domain is the bit
after any "www.". Receiving new email may not
currently be possible, but incoming email is
being queued. No email will be lost. Please do
not adjust any settings on your software.

Please do try again later. If you are still
experiencing problems or to see whether we're
back, please revisit this page, or try here for
further information on the GreenNet support page
when it is available. GreenNet normal working
hours are 9.30 - 5.30 Monday to Friday.

Apologies for outage from about midnight Friday/Saturday and sporadically over the weekend - here's a note from the ISP

Dear Member 25 November 2019

We're writing to apologise for the downtime over the past weekend and update you on the situation.

The outage lasted from approximately Midday til 7PM GMT on Friday 22nd November, and resumed from approximately 2AM until 4AM on Saturday 23rd. Services were brought back online gradually through Saturday afternoon and were completely restored by the end of the day. It was caused by a large Distributed Denial of Service attack (DDoS), which severely disrupted traffic to our websites and mail server.

DDoS attacks do not involve any access to servers or risk of data breach but we will be continuing our investigations and will make appropriate notifications to users and ICO if we do discover any evidence of an intrusion.

Since the beginning of the incident we have been in close contact with our data centre, and will be reviewing the incident to ensure that we can apply any learning to increase our resilience against future attacks. If you have any concerns or need further information, please email support

Please be patient with support requests today as we're be working through a queue of messages.

With best wishes from all at the GreenNet Collective,
Andrew, Ian, Marek, Ed, Cedric, Liz & Howard
