From the article...
Gordon Dewar, chief executive of Edinburgh Airport, said: "Safety and security is at the heart of everything we do at Edinburgh airport and this new scanner is a great enhancement to our security process.

"The scan is quick, simple and safe for everyone and does not compromise individual's privacy as the image taken is deleted straight after it is assessed."
a) "a great enhancement" - despite being shown not to work and not be cost effective... http://www.chicagotribune.com/travel/sn ... 6193.story

b) "...safe..." Didn't Europe just ban them? http://www.forbes.com/sites/daviddisalv ... -concerns/

c) "...privacy..." right - male staff oogling female passengers? That's been corrected has it? http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2012/02/03/fema ... ed-by-tsa/

So bland statement from CEO makes it all ok?

Some even more Orwellian technology soon to come onstream:

DHS Molecular Laser Scanners:
http://gizmodo.com/5923980/the-secret-g ... -about-you

'Within the next year or two, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will instantly know everything about your body, clothes, and luggage with a new laser-based molecular scanner fired from 164 feet (50 meters) away. From traces of drugs or gun powder on your clothes to what you had for breakfast to the adrenaline level in your body—agents will be able to get any information they want without even touching you.

And without you knowing it.

The technology is so incredibly effective that, in November 2011, its inventors were subcontracted by In-Q-Tel to work with the US Department of Homeland Security. In-Q-Tel is a company founded "in February 1999 by a group of private citizens at the request of the Director of the CIA and with the support of the U.S. Congress." According to In-Q-Tel, they are the bridge between the Agency and new technology companies...'
'And he (the devil) said to him: To thee will I give all this power, and the glory of them; for to me they are delivered, and to whom I will, I give them'. Luke IV 5-7.
