So, they wouldnt have even needed to scramble fighter jets to intercept errant airplanes, they could have taken them down in seconds using mthel. It even has it's own radar tracking system. Are they deployed at the Pentagon? It would make sense don't you think?
The technology seems plausible enough.
No reason to suppose this dosent exist.
But conventional is still better, this is why this type of weapon is still not widely used.
First if several rockets bombs or missiles are incoming this is very slow at intecepting them, it needs to hold the heat ray on the bomb for several seconds to trigger it to self destruct.
And on a battlefield you are not going to have access to loads of generated electricity so after a few shots the power supply may run out.
EMP will also make this weapon redundant. _________________
There is just a bit of a difference between causing a missile to detonate (possibly by frying its electronics) and bringing down two of the tallest buildings in the world.
It's somewhat like saying greenhouses exist, therefore the earth could be surrounded by a REAL greenhouse. Or at the least, we shouldn't rule it out!
As people have repeated a thousand million billion times, these things work by weakening a point on the nose cone of the missiles just enough for the massive air pressure (just while its flying!) to cave it in and rip the entire structure to bits. For this, they take an inordinate amount of power and can only fire for a few seconds at a time.
Probably comparable to gently warming a penny by a few degrees over a minute or so.
But thanks for the input, Andrew. _________________ "Thought is faster than arrows, and truth is sharper than blades." - David Gemmell | RealityDown wiki
